Musical Events for the Week of Feb. 28

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Feb. 28. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, March 1:

Alexander Dossin, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, and his piano studio students will give a recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will feature the music of Frederic Chopin in honor of the 195th anniversary of his birth. The concert will open with Prelude in e minor, preformed by senior Erin Spellacy, St. Joseph, Minn. The program will continue with performances by freshman Charis Boersma, Wild Rose; sophomore Michelle Kallin, Ronan, Mont.; junior Krista Hebel, Two Rivers; and freshman Xavier Suarez, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The second half of the program will feature senior Amy Bowen, Chippewa Falls, and senior Yukiko Fujimura, Kanagawa, Japan. Dossin will conclude the recital with Chopin's Fantasy-Impromptu in c sharp minor.

Wednesday, March 2:

Patrick Bents, Duluth, Minn., will perform his senior trombone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Bents will be assisted by senior Phillip Dorn, Clintonville, on piano; junior Randall Pingrey, Madison, on trombone; senior Joshua Heyer, Green Bay, on trombone; and freshman Joshua Becker, Apple Valley, Minn., on bass trombone. The concert will open with a performance of Sinfonia for Trombone and Piano by G.B. Pergolesi. The music of J.S. Bach and John Davison also will be featured. The performance will conclude with "Land-Sighting" by Edvard Grieg.
