UW-Eau Claire Forensics Takes First
in Second Day of LoveFest Tournament

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team hosted the Wisconsin LoveFest with Ripon College on the UW-Eau Claire campus this past weekend.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, the UW-Eau Claire team acted as the hosts for the Grace Walsh Individual Events Tournament. There were 16 schools in attendance.

On Sunday, the UW-Eau Claire forensics team took first place at the Red Hawk Invitational hosted by Ripon College. The tournament took place on the UW-Eau Claire campus.

Individual results are as follows:

Senior Chris Conklin, Green Bay, placed first in after-dinner speaking, qualifying that event for the American Forensics Association tournament. Conklin also took second place in persuasive speaking.

Senior Kelly Bender, New London, placed first in persuasive speaking, qualifying that event for AFA; placed second in rhetorical criticism; and placed fourth in prose, qualifying that event for the National Forensics Association tournament.

Freshman Hilary Rasmussen, Eau Claire, placed first in poetry, qualifying that event for AFA.

Sophomore Amy Oldakowski, Sobieski, placed second in extemporaneous speaking and fourth in after-dinner speaking, qualifying both events for NFA. Oldakowski also placed fifth in persuasive speaking.

Senior Andy Bevernitz, Clintonville, took second place in informative speaking, qualifying that event for AFA.

Junior Betsy Schroeder, LeCenter, Minn., placed third in extemporaneous speaking and sixth in informative speaking.

Senior Dan McNeely, Bloomington, Minn., took third place in program oral interpretation.

Junior Abby Czeskleba, Middleton, took fourth place in persuasive speaking.

Senior Rachel Mayasich, St. Cloud, Minn., took fifth place in poetry.

Sophomore Christine Zani, Hurley, placed sixth in persuasive speaking, qualifying that event for NFA.

Next up, the UW-Eau Claire forensics team will travel to Ripon College for the Wisconsin State Tournament.
