Musical Events for the Week of Feb. 21

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Feb. 21 All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Feb. 22

Senior Kara Sorensen, Duluth, Minn., will present a flute recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of Haas Fine Arts Center. Sorensen will be assisted by Beverly Soll on piano; senior Nathan Abuan, Shoreview, Minn., on violin; and senior Sacia Jerome, Barron, on cello. The recital will open with Sonata from the "Musical Offering" by J.S. Bach, followed by Lider for Flute and Piano by Franz Schubert. Sorenson will end the performance with Sonata in D major by Sergei Prokofiev.

Thursday, Feb. 24:

Dr. Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, will present a faculty trombone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of Haas Fine Arts Center. He will be accompanied by Beverly Soll on piano; emeritus professor of music Rodney Hudson on trombone; senior James Yardley, Duluth, Minn., on bass trombone; and senior Kenyon Scheurman, River Falls, on trombone. The recital will open with Improvisation No.1 by Enrique Crespo and will feature the music of Hindemith, Sellers, Jacob, Wagenseil, and Brahms.
