New Saturday Children's Shows Start
at L.E. Phillips Planetarium

RELEASED: Feb. 3, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — The L.E. Phillips Planetarium announces the start of Saturday planetarium shows for children, beginning Feb. 5. The shows are aimed at children ages 4-10 but can also be enjoyed by parents and older children.

The new Saturday children's planetarium series is supported by a grant from the American Girl Company's Fund for Children through the Eau Claire Area Foundation. Lauren Likkel, associate professor in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of physics and astronomy, will direct UW-Eau Claire students majoring in science or education in presenting the shows.

"This is a great opportunity for families to have fun while learning about the night sky," said Likkel.

Some of the programs include "Larry Cat in Space" and "Zubenelgenubi's Magical Sky."

The children's programs last 30-45 minutes and will be held at 11 a.m. the first three Saturdays of the month until May 14. The L.E. Phillips Planetarium is on the UW-Eau Claire campus at the north end of the Phillips Science Hall. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased before the program at the Davies Center. More information about planetarium programs at UW-Eau Claire, including the Tuesday night programs, can be obtained by calling (715) 836-3727 or by visiting the planetarium Web site.
