Four Classified Staff Members Announce Recent or Upcoming Retirement

EAU CLAIRE — Four classified staff members at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire have recently retired or have announced their upcoming retirement.

Cheryl Barrows, a dean assistant in Graduate Studies, will retire in January 2006 after 35 years of service to that department. She started working as a stenographer in 1970. During her career in the department, she progressed through the stenographer classifications, then through the program assistant classifications, and finally to dean assistant.

Carolyn Chasteen, an IS comprehensive services-senior in Facilities Planning and Management, retired in October. She started working for the University in 1993 as a limited-term employee in the Records and Registration office. Over the following six years, she also worked as an LTE in the Copy Corner and in Computing and Networking Services. In 1999, Carolyn was hired as a permanent IS employee in Facilities Planning and Management, where she provided support for the department's computer systems.

Catherine Jones, a library services assistant advanced/lead, will retire in February 2006. She has worked for the University for 27 years, starting in 1978 as a limited-term employee in Records and Registration. In 1980, McIntyre Library hired her as a clerical assistant. She was reclassified as a library services assistant four years later and continued to progress through the library assistant classification series throughout her career.

Judy Kilde, a medical assistant in Student Health Services, will retire in January 2006 after fourteen years of assisting with the medical needs of the student population. She started working for Health Services as a limited-term employee in 1991. In 1997, Health Services hired Kilde as a permanent medical assistant.
