University Dining Services Collecting Canned Food for Feed My People Food Bank

RELEASED: Dec. 7, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — University Dining Services at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is fighting hunger in our community with "Caring Cans," a canned food drive to benefit the Feed My People food bank in Eau Claire.

Now through Wednesday, Dec. 21, Sodexho Campus Services invites anyone visiting its campus dining facilities to bring non-perishable food items to collection areas in Davies Center (Marketplace) and Hilltop Center (Riverview Cafe, Hilltop Center Food Court).

For the past several years the dining services staff of Hilltop Center has collected food donations in lieu of exchanging holiday gifts. University Dining Services also routinely donates perishable produce remaining at the end of each academic semester.

Last December a total of 1,076 pounds of food was collected and donated to Feed My People, an Eau Claire food pantry that distributes donated food and other products to non-profit agencies serving senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others in need throughout the Chippewa Valley.

UW-Eau Claire's dining services program is administered by University Centers and Programs.
