Media Memo: UW-Eau Claire Students Studying in New Orleans Area

RELEASED: Aug. 29, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — UW-Eau Claire does have several of its students studying at universities in and around New Orleans this fall as part of the National Student Exchange program.

Mary Ryan-Miller, coordinator of the NSE program, is trying to contact students who are in areas that may be affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Ryan-Miller was able to reach one student this morning via e-mail, who reported that he is safe and with the family of friends in Florida. Jules Miller, a sophomore communication major from Green Bay, arrived at the University of New Orleans a week ago. He participated in orientation and was settling in when the hurricane approached and he had to evacuate.

Jules Miller said he will check e-mail when possible and that the media is welcome to try to reach him. His e-mail address is millerjf@uwec.edu.

Mary Ryan-Miller is available to talk about the exchange program. You can reach her at (715) 836-2003 or ryanmk@uwec.edu.

We'll share information about other students as it becomes available.
