Communication and Journalism Students to Receive Awards at Recognition Reception

EAU CLAIRE — Twenty-three University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students were recently notified that they were selected to receive communication or journalism scholarships, which will be awarded during the Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception to be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center.

Dennis Slater, Franklin, received the Ann Devroy Fellowship, which includes a residency at The Washington Post and an internship at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Slater also received the Arthur L. Murray Memorial Journalism Award and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association David Gordon Reporter Award.

Karline Koehler, Lake Nebagamon, was awarded the James E. Fields Journalism Scholarship and the Outstanding Journalism Recognition Scholarship. Koehler also received the Marshall B. Atkinson Journalism Scholarship, which is funded and awarded by the Eau Claire Press Company.

Rebecca Cheever, Ashland, received the Leslie D. Polk Scholarship and the Excellence in Communication Award.

Amy Oldakowski, Sobieski, received the Donald L. and Geraldine T. Wolfarth Scholarship.

Rachel Onken, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., was awarded the Sally A. Webb Diversity Tuition Scholarship in Organizational Communication.

Alex Drogseth, La Crosse, was awarded the Lee Hench and Esther Sanford Hench Memorial Scholarship.

Amanda Filtz, Stevens Point, received the Sally A. Webb Organizational Communication Tuition Scholarship.

Shannon Glynn, Spring Lake Park, Minn., received the Donald L. and Geraldine T. Wolfarth Scholarship.

Rebecca Hebbring, Chippewa Falls, was awarded the Joseph Giordano Memorial Scholarship.

Ahmet Bakmis, an international student from Turkey, was awarded the Sally A. Webb International Student Tuition Scholarship.

Simon Okiror, White Hall, Ark., was awarded the Kevin J. Schieffer Scholarship.

Brian Reisinger, Spring Green, was awarded the WNA Jerry Conner Freelance Reporter Scholarship.

Evan Perrault, Colgate, received the Leslie D. Polk Scholarship.

Tracy Skillman, Stevens Point, received the Sally A. Webb Tuition Scholarship for Study Abroad for an Organizational Communication Student.

Steve Pope, St. Michael, Minn., received the Cindy Schott Humanitarian Award.

Adam Stapel, Marinette, was awarded the Lee Hench and Esther Sanford Hench Memorial Scholarship.

Ann Walker, Cambria, was awarded the Arthur L. Murray Memorial Journalism Award.

Mark Schaaf, Prairie du Chien, was awarded the Conner Spectator Excellence and Promise Award.

Erica Dakins, Kaukauna, received the WNA Wil Pautz Photo/Graphics/Design Scholarship.

Ashley Dziuk, Hastings, Minn., was awarded the WNA Les Polk Copy Editor Award.

Mackenzie Parfitt, Maplewood, Minn., was awarded the WNA Wallace Weil Advertising/Business Management Scholarship.

Lindsay Green, Maple Grove, Minn., received the WNA Elwood Karwand Advertising and Sales Award.

Alison Pelleymounter, Cottage Grove, received the WNA Henry Lippold Editor Scholarship.
