EAU CLAIRE — The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony will present its 24th season concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus.
Ivar Lunde Jr. is the music director and conductor. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert will open with "Polonaise Militaire" by Frederic Chopin, and continue with "Norwegian Dances," No. 2 and No. 3, by Edvard Grieg and Brahms' "Academic Festival Overture." Concerto for two violins and strings by Bach will feature Amelia Weiss of Menomonie High School and Taylor Cochrane of Eau Claire's Memorial High School.
The concert will continue with Prokofieff's "Triumphal March"; the "Satirical Dance" from "The Bolt" by Dimitri Schostakovich; "Themes from the 007 Medley," as arranged by Calvin Custer; and Mozart's "Abduction from the Seraglio."
The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony offers a creative outlet and symphony experience for area students in grades 7-12. This year there are 68 members plus six UW-Eau Claire student section leaders. Twelve graduating seniors will be presented with medals at this performance.
