UW-Eau Claire Symphony Band to Present Spring Concert May 8

RELEASED: April 27, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band will present a concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 8, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Symphony Band, under the direction of Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will open with "Canzona" by Peter Mennin and "William Byrd Suite" by Gordon Jacob. Winner of the 2005 Student Conducting Competition, senior Jonathan Juedes, New London, will be featured as the guest conductor for Anthony Iannaccone's "Plymouth Trilogy." Richard Mark Heidel, assistant professor of music, also will conduct the ensemble as they perform "Variations on a Korean Folk Song," composed by John Barnes Chance.

Donald J. Young's "Clarinet Rhapsody" will feature senior Elizabeth Wilson, Plymouth, Minn., winner of the 2005 Student Soloist Competition. The ensemble will conclude with "The Solitary Dancer" by Warren Benson and John Philip Sousa's "The Gallant Seventh."

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
