Earth Day Event to Be Held in Owen Park April 23

RELEASED: April 21, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students and faculty, teaming with Xcel Energy, Beaver Creek Reserve and local businesses and community groups will sponsor the Eau Claire Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in Eau Claire's Owen Park.

This family event, held beside the Chippewa River, includes free live music, hands-on educational activities for all ages, kids' artwork and poetry awards, fishing and boating tips from Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources, great local foods and much more.

Students and faculty from the departments of biology, geography, nursing, public health professions, communication and journalism, and the Center for Service Learning are participating, along with the UW-Eau Claire Conservationists student organization. Students and their families and friends are all welcome at this university-business-community partnership event to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Earth Day, originated by former Wisconsin governor and U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson.
