Two UW-Eau Claire Students to Receive Karl Andresen Scholarship Awards

RELEASED: April 11, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation awarded seniors Jacob Curtis, Muskego, and Krista Steinmetz, Chippewa Falls, the Karl Andresen Political Science Scholarship for the 2004-05 academic year.

The award was established by former students of Dr. Andresen, professor emeritus of political science, to recognize a graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence and the promise of future academic achievements. Each recipient will receive an award of $2,500.

Steinmetz said she will use the scholarship to help defray the costs of attending graduate school at the University of Iowa, where she will begin pursuing a doctoral degree this fall.

"One drawback is that I have become quite attached to the political science faculty at UW-Eau Claire, whom I respect more than I ever thought possible, and will miss them greatly."

Curtis' plans include a summer internship in Washington, D.C., and then fall enrollment in a yet-to-be-determined law school.

"The entire political science department has been extremely helpful over the past four years," said Curtis. "Their doors were always open and they were willing to make it clear how to achieve success in their courses."

The awards will be presented during the Honors Week celebration and Pi Sigma Alpha reception on Tuesday, April 19. The reception will be held in the Alumni Room of Davies Center at 6 p.m.
