UW-Eau Claire Short Play Festival to Run
April 13-15 in Riverside Theatre

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts will present its annual Spring Short Play Festival at 4 and 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, April 13-15, in Riverside Theatre of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The festival is comprised of 13 short plays that are shown four or five at a time over the three day festival.

The following plays will be performed April 13 at 4 p.m. and April 14
at 8 p.m.

  • "Final Placement" by Ara Watson; directed by senior Stephan Howe, St. Paul, Minn. Plot: A mother guilty of child abuse confronts a child welfare officer and fights to regain custody.
  • "Auld Lange Syne, or I'll Bet You Think this Play is About You" by Beverly Creasey; directed by senior Nancy Cegla, Eau Claire. Plot: What is Anna and Charles' relationship? Charles seems to have erased Anna, but Anna remembers Charles all too well.
  • "Mrs. Cage" by Nancy Barr; directed by senior Bria Fraundorf, Antigo. Plot: Mrs. Cage, model mother and perfect wife, kills another woman.
  • "The Golden Fleece" by A. R. Gurney, Jr.; directed by senior Paul Barnes, Little Falls, Minn. Plot: Jason and Medea have a minor marital spat and Bill and Betty need to help straighten things out.

The following plays will be performed April 13 at 8 p.m. and April 15
at 4 p.m.

  • "Watermelon Boats" by Wendy MacLaughlin; directed by senior Deborah Selvig, Roseville, Minn. Plot: Two young girls, Kitty and Kate, discover the true meaning of friendship.
  • "Precipice" by William Mastrosimone; directed by senior Jayme Johnson, Madison. Plot: A couple hiking on the edge of a cliff deals with sudden severe weather and the resulting feelings and fears.
  • "A Betrothal" by Lanford Wilson; directed by senior Briana Hardyman, Darlington. Plot: Ms. Joslyn and Mr. Wasserman, experienced flower breeders, find each other's company after a rained out flower show where both were carelessly overlooked.
  • "Drive" by Neal Bell; directed by senior Michele Gullikson, Iola. Plot: A couple becomes lost in an inner-city neighborhood and searches for a way out.
  • "Eye to Eye" by Christopher Graybill; directed by senior Eric Garfield, Marshfield. Plot: A man and woman out to dinner together turn the evening into a game of skill to see who will pay.

The following plays will be preformed April 14 at 4 p.m. and April 15
at 8 p.m.

  • "The Former One-On-One Basketball Champion" by Israel Horovitz; directed by senior Sara Kostreva, Oconto Falls. Plot: A basketball fan gets an unexpected chance to play against his hero.
  • "After" by Carol K. Mack; directed by senior Paul Bleier, Wautoma. Plot: A journalist, Cindy, stumbles upon a field in a remote corner of Disney World and is shocked to discover that it is a dumpsite filled with all the characters that inhabited her childhood fairytales.
  • "Sure Thing" by David Ives; directed by senior Joe Dauer, Mound, Minn. Plot: A young man tries to catch the interest of a young woman in a café.
  • "Slam!" by Jane Willis; directed by senior Daniel Largent, Mondovi. Plot: Two friends explore the bond created by their mutual interest in slam dancing.
