Tip Sheet for the Week of April 4, 2005

RELEASED: April 4, 2005

Story Idea
UW-Eau Claire accounting students are doing financial statement reviews for non-profit businesses in the Chippewa Valley.
The reviews provide assurance to boards of directors that financial statements are prepared correctly. As part of the project, students meet with the organizations' staff to review how the accounting is done and how financial statements are prepared. If needed, they provide advice on operating procedures such as internal controls like how to handle cash. The students also review records and documents as part of their procedures. The procedures are done under the guidance of D'Arcy Becker, associate professor of accounting and finance. The accounting auditing class is doing seven reviews this semester. D'Arcy Becker can provide details and put you in touch with students and businesses participating in the project. You can reach Dr. Becker at (715) 836-6028 or dbecker@uwec.edu.
