Sixteen UW-Eau Claire Students Exhibit
for Senior Art Show

RELEASED: April 1, 2005

EAU CLAIRE — Sixteen candidates for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire bachelor of fine arts degrees will display their works in a senior BFA art show. The exhibit will showcase paintings, photography, drawings, illustrations, sculptures and ceramics from April 8 through April 14 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in the gallery.

Studio art exhibits will include figurative paintings and drawings, illustrations in a variety of mixed media, ceramics and sculptures. Graphic design exhibits will include posters, logos, package designs, brochures, photography, stationery, magazine layout and a variety of other works.

"I am very conceptual in nature," said Darrell Walters, Eau Claire, who will exhibit electronic media, video, graphic design work, photography and sculpture. "Much of my work is philosophical or an observation of reality."

"Some of my art has a definite political edge to it; mainly influenced by current social, economic and political issues," said Erin Page, Park Falls. She is exhibiting watercolor paintings and one graphite drawing. "The other work deals mainly with formal aspects of color, composition and technique in watercolor."

Craig Johnson, Chanhassen, Minn., said he takes a lot of influence from rocks and mountains and that his sculptural ceramic work involves a search for a fundamental human nature.

Other exhibiters are Bjorn Hagstrom, Afton, Minn.; Brigitte De Chantal, Hayward; Bryanne Skolaski, Waunakee; Carolyn Jokela, Winona, Minn.; Cecelia Hutte, Park Falls; Corey Huttenburg, Greenville; Jessica Dahlen, Burnsville, Minn.; Joseph Ripienski, Maple Grove, Minn.; Justin Solberg, Altoona; Katharine Dunar, Mequon; Kristine Unterweger, Nashotah; Nichole Abrashinsky, Onalaska; and Samantha Siker, Janesville.

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information about gallery exhibits, contact Tom Wagener at (715) 836-2328.
