EAU CLAIRE — This year’s University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Holiday Concert will share a little more with the community than just music.
The president of the Student Wisconsin Education Association, Kelly Anthony, Rothschild, came up with the idea to ask for book donations at the Holiday Concert scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8, to give to the Give-A-Kid-A-Book program at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library.
Anthony, a senior comprehensive elementary and special education major, said she thought the concert would be a perfect place to ask for donations, when people are in the holiday spirit.
The Give-A-Kid-A-Book program has been donating books to Eau Claire organizations, such as the Salvation Army, Eau Claire Academy and School Age Parents programs at Memorial and North High Schools, for over five years.
Anthony has been involved in the program for a little over a month and has already created a project to help surpass the 716 books donated last year to the Friend’s of the Library, the sponsor of the Give-A-Kid-A-Book program.
In addition to the donations accepted during the Holiday Concert, SWEA also will be collecting books in the lobby of Davies Center Tuesday, Dec. 3rd through Thursday, Dec. 5th.
“We are looking for books for infants through middle school aged kids,” Anthony said. “Everything from picture books to chapter books to dictionaries.”
“I am so happy to have Kelly volunteering for this project,” said Cheryl Cutsforth, the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library Friends’ Give-A-Kid-A-Book project co-chair. “She has great ideas and the energy to back them up.”
