Two UW-Eau Claire Students
Win Communication Scholarships
MAILED: Nov. 11, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — The Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Journal Foundation has awarded two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Scholarships.
Juniors Elizabeth Steward and Robin Pfeifer were awarded the scholarships named in honor of Walter Jay Damm, a pioneer and leader in the field of broadcasting, and Clara Charlotte Damm.
Steward, an electronic media major from Chippewa Falls, received $3,000 for the 2002-03 academic year.
Pfeifer, a print journalism major from West Bend, received $2,000 for the 2002-03 academic year.
Steward, who also won the scholarship last year, aspires to work in the film field. “My goal is to work for NFL films,” she said. “I eventually want to edit and produce.”
Pfeifer currently works for The Spectator as a writer and copy editor and also writes a weekly newsletter for the Kiwanis Club. Eventually, she said, she’d like to write for a magazine.
Both Steward and Pfeifer are thinking of pursuing graduate school and said that their scholarships will be put toward school expenses.
The scholarships will be presented at the Department of Communication and Journalism Spring Awards Convocation.
