To Host Photographic Exhibition![]()
MAILED: Nov. 1, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — The Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the exhibit “Divine Humility: Jesus Icons in Contemporary Mexico,” a photographic documentation of the iconic representation of Christ throughout Mexico.
The exhibit opens with a reception at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov 7. Spanish language students will give a presentation on Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, at 8:00 p.m.
This exhibit will be of particular interest to those interested in the incorporation of culture and beliefs in people’s daily lives. Atypical of the culture of the United States, the people of Mexico keep Jesus Christ at the center of their day-to-day activities and construct icons portraying his suffering as well as his benevolence in their homes, churches, public areas and places of business.
Additionally, the photographer, Robert Lewis of the University of Memphis, will present lectures on the exhibit at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, in the Foster Gallery. The show is free and open to the public and runs through November 27th.
