UW-Eau Claire Forensics Team
Places Second at Winona State
MAILED: Oct. 18, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team took second place at the Winona State University Tournament Oct. 11-12.
Typically UW-Eau Claire takes 10-12 students to this annual tournament and that large team has often captured the championship, but because only six students participated this year, they were simply hoping to place in the top five.
“It was a wonderful surprise when these six students took second place at the tournament and only missed first place by three points,” said Karen Morris, director of forensics.
Results for the tournament are as follows:
Senior Ben Schneider, Greendale, took third place in the individual sweepstakes, for a combination of his four best events, as well as second place in both impromptu speaking and persuasive speaking, third place in extemporaneous speaking and fourth place in communication analysis. He also won first in duo interpretation with freshman Rachel Mayasich, St. Cloud, Minn. In her first college tournament, Mayasich also placed third in poetry interpretation.
Sophomore Andy Bevernitz, Clintonville, placed fourth in both dramatic interpretation and prose interpretation and fifth in communication analysis.
Sophomore Amanda Dolan, Greenfield, took fourth in poetry interpretation and fifth in persuasive speaking.
Sophomore Dan Mc Neely, Bloomington, Minn., placed sixth in informative speaking.
