UW-Eau Claire to Sponsor Activities
Recognizing Alcohol Awareness Week

         EAU CLAIRE  The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will recognize National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, Oct. 20 to 26, with events that will educate and challenge students.
         The theme is “Know Your Limits,” and the events will help educate students about the possible consequences they face when challenging their alcohol consumption limits. Activities like the climbing wall in McPhee Physical Education Center, the “Don’t Bottle It Up!” program and the Fear Factor$ competition will enable students to challenge their physical and mental limits in other ways.
         Most events are free and open to the entire UW-Eau Claire community.
         OcTUBAFest, a student recital, will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in Phillips Recital Hall in Haas Fine Arts.
         Students can challenge their strength on the climbing wall from 6:30 to 10:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday in McPhee.
         The Peer Health Educators will have a “Know Your Limits” booth from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday in the East Blugold Room, Davies Center.
         Wednesday is “Dead Day,” featuring a cross display on the Central Campus Mall.
         At 8 p.m. Wednesday, students can attend Jazz at Night in the Cabin, Davies Center. As part of the Peer Health Educators Wellness Series, “Don’t Bottle It Up!” will be presented at 9 p.m. in Putnam Hall. Refreshments will be provided.
         Students can go bowling and play pool for half price from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bowling and Billiards Center in Hilltop Center. Also from 7 p.m. to midnight is the Residence Hall Activities Board Talent Show in the Towers TV Lounge.
         NOTA is holding an Open Poetry and Prose Reading at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Cabin. At 8:30 p.m. students can attend Latin Funk Aerobics in the McPhee Dance Studio.
         Latin Funk Aerobics also will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Ade Olson Addition of McPhee. At 8 p.m., Open Stage night will be featured in the Cabin. From 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Club Mercury will play at Higher Ground. There is a $1 cover charge.
         The Fear Factor$ competition will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday on Upper Campus. There is a $10 fee per team. Matt Wahl will perform from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Higher Ground. There is a $1 cover charge.
         The sponsors of Alcohol Awareness Week activities are Health Services, Peer Health Educators, University Recreation, Housing and Residence Life, Residence Hall Activities Board, National Residence Hall Honorary, United Hall Council, Activities and Programs and University Activities Commission.
