The event is an opportunity for junior and senior high school students and their advisers to learn ways to improve their newspapers and yearbooks. Workshop sectionals are offered for newspaper and yearbook editors, reporters, photographers and support staff.
Experienced journalism instructors, professional photographers, area print and television news professionals and yearbook company representatives will lead discussions in approximately 60 sectionals covering various topics throughout the day.
Among the proposed topics are “Writing the Story with Style,” “Story Ideas: What’s Hot and What’s Not,” “Photography: Using Pictures to Tell the Story,” “What Makes a Good Yearbook” and “News Ethics and Fair Play.”
On-the-spot yearbook and newspaper competitions also will be held, with one student staff person per school eligible to enter.
The fee is $8.50 for each student and adviser from C.V.S.P.A. member schools. A C.V.S.P.A. membership is $50.
