MAILED: Sept. 9, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — A publication designed by a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student graphic designer has received an award of excellence in the University & College Designers Association’s 32nd annual design competition.
The 2001-02 season booklet for The Forum and Artists Series, created by Norman Orstad, will be displayed at the 2002 UCDA Conference in Chicago Sept. 14-17. Orstad designed the 16-page booklet, which promoted the annual lecture and performing arts series at UW-Eau Claire, while working in University Centers and Programs’ information design services area.
The University & College Designers Association promotes excellence in visual communications for institutions of higher education. UCDA judges evaluated more than 1,450 entries and gave 114 awards in print categories — four gold, four silver, and 106 awards of excellence. Print entries were judged for excellence in concept, design, illustration, typography and printing, as well as effectiveness, quality and creativity in solving the problems inherent in institutional design.
A 2001 graduate of UW-Eau Claire, Orstad is currently a graphic designer for Potomac Communications Group Inc., a public relations firm in Washington, D.C., that specializes in public affairs issues related to energy, technology and the environment. From Rogers, Minn., Orstad received a bachelor of arts degree in art and worked in information design services from June 2000 until his graduation.
University Centers and Programs is a Student Services unit of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
