Robert Baca Elected to Executive Board of the
International Association for Jazz Education
MAILED: Aug. 27, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — Robert Baca, associate professor of music and theatre arts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has been elected to the executive board of the International Association for Jazz Education.
The IAJE membership selected Baca as its United States representative for the executive board. Representatives are selected from the United States, Australia/Asia, Canada and Europe.
With a mission to grow and develop jazz and jazz education throughout the world, IAJE is the largest organization for the worldwide jazz community, Baca said. The organization has more than 8,000 members in 40 countries, he said, adding that more than 4,500 people attended last year’s annual IAJE convention.
Among its many projects, the IAJE produces the Jazz Education Journal, the world’s primary source for news and information in the field of jazz education; offers teacher training institutes; provides an artist outreach network; and hosts the North Sea Jazz Festival, one of the world’s largest and most respected jazz festivals.
UW-Eau Claire’s student IAJE chapter is one of the largest in the country, Baca said. Senior music major Matt McVeigh, Stevens Point, will lead the student chapter during the 2002-03 academic year.
