UW-Eau Claire Summer Commencement
Set for Aug. 3

         EAU CLAIRE  Summer commencement exercises for 202 candidates for graduation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in Zorn Arena at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
         The ceremony is open to everyone, and tickets are not required.
         A total of 170 undergraduate students will receive bachelor's degrees, including 70 from the College of Arts and Sciences, 47 from the College of Business and 53 from the College of Professional Studies.
         A total of 32 graduate students will receive master's degrees. These graduates include 11 from the College of Arts and Sciences and eight from the College of Business. Within the College of Professional Studies, 24 students will receive master's degrees from the School of Education and six from the School of Nursing.
         Chancellor Donald Mash will preside over the ceremony and confer the degrees. Associate Vice Chancellor Steven Tallant will present the candidates. University Senate Chair Susan Harrison will be commencement marshal. Rachel Kohn will provide signing for the hearing impaired.
         Roger E. Axtell, a member of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, will deliver the "Charge to the Class."
         Katherine Marie Wittrock, a candidate for a bachelor's degree in public relations from Antigo, will present "Reflections."
         Retirees who will be honored at commencement include Dr. Carol Klun, associate dean and professor emerita, College of Professional Studies; and Dr. Rita Kisting Sparks, professor emerita, School of Nursing.
         The following alumni and honorary alumni will be recognized as alumni award recipients: David Solberg, class of 1962, and John Certalic, class of 1971, Alumni Distinguished Achievement Awards; Ronald Lund, class of 1971, the President's Award; and Gary Bartlett, Honorary Alumnus Award.
         The Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra Brass Quintet, coordinated by music faculty member Andrew Parks, will provide music for the ceremony. Sarah Parks will lead the singing of the national anthem and "University Alma Mater."
         Robert Lopez, executive director of enrollment services and director of admissions, will announce the candidates' names during the presentation of diplomas.
         A reception for graduates and guests will follow the ceremony on the lawn near the campus mall clock tower. In case of rain, the reception will be in the Spruce-Tamarack Room of the Davies Center.
