School of Nursing Announces

EAU CLAIRE — The School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire recently announced scholarship recipients for the 2002-03 academic year.
Sheryl Holmes, a graduate student from Wausau, was awarded the Audrey Bryan Memorial Scholarship. Bryan was a member of the School of Nursing faculty from 1987 until her death in 2001.
The Joyce M. Brown Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Lea Amdahl, a sophomore from Cadott.
The Loretta Donnellan Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Kelly Stuettgen, a senior from Waukesha.
Friends of Luther Nursing Scholarships went to Gina Edison, a graduate student from Eau Claire; Sara Loertscher, a senior from Unity; Jamie Sinz, a senior from Durand; and Amanda Woods, a sophomore from Neillsville.
The Major John Toivo Kallio Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Melissa Wendell, a graduate student from Marshfield. The recipient must be a graduate student with an emphasis in adult or family health nursing and a research or practice interest in AIDS or other chronic illnesses.
John M. Kildahl Family Scholarships went to Lindsay Olsen, a senior from Madison; Rachel Pfarr, a sophomore from Le Suer, Minn.; and Amy Schmitz, a junior from West Bend.
The Virginia Ione Kimpton Scholarship was awarded to Alyssa Van Thiel, a sophomore from Appleton.
Dr. Harold and Helena Ray Huston Nursing Scholarships went to Jennifer Gouker, a senior from Clear Lake, and Erin Shane, a junior from Colfax.
Marshfield Rotary Scholarships were awarded to Brandi Sparks-Luther, a sophomore from Spencer, and Loertscher. Recipients must be in Wisconsin bachelor of science nursing programs with grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher.
The Robert and Judith Mickelson Scholarship was awarded to Mary Golden, a senior from River Falls.
The Vera Nelson Scholarship was awarded to Sarah Dresel, a sophomore from Jim Falls.
Rodaynah Obaid Nursing Scholarships were awarded to Megan Grinnell, a senior from Montrose, Minn.; Amy Neumann, a junior from Somerset; and Barbara Zobitz, a senior from Stevens Point. Recipients must be nursing students who exhibit high academic achievement and records of service and caring.
St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary Scholarships went to Renee Brock, a senior from Marshfield; Ryan Cournoyer, a sophomore from Spencer; Kerry Kaufman, a junior from Marshfield; Barbara Olson, a senior from Marshfield; Lisa Pearce, a senior from Marshfield; Loertscher; and Sparks-Luther.
The Lila Shelley Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Golden. The recipient must be a nontraditional student admitted to the nursing program and in good academic standing with the School of Nursing and the university.
Tri-County Medical Alliance Scholarships were awarded to Alice Knutson, a graduate student from McHenry, Ill., and Edison. Recipients must be students from the Eau Claire, Dunn or Pepin County areas.
The Berniece Wagner Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Emily Geissler, a senior from Altoona.
The Jeffrey K. Walker Humanitarian Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Joel Hilson, a sophomore from Colfax. Selection for this award is based on community service and involvement, which takes precedence over academic achievement.
Wisconsin Rural Opportunities Foundation Inc. Scholarships went to Melinda Knutson, a junior from Cumberland; Jessie Rowe, a senior from Arpin; Amdahl; Gouker; and Hilson.
Along with the student scholarships, four faculty awards were presented.
The Ihle Family Award for Caring was awarded to Rita Kisting Sparks, interim associate dean and education administrator, School of Nursing.
The Midelfort Health Care Award went to Michaelene Mirr Jansen, professor of adult health nursing, for her project "Exercises for Elderly-Video II."
The Patricia M. Ostmoe Award for Excellence in Clinical Instruction was awarded to Patricia Garber, assistant professor, adult health nursing.
The Suzanne Van Ort Award for Faculty Creativity and Scholarliness was awarded to M. Cecilia Wendler, associate professor, nursing systems.
