UW-Eau Claire To Offer
Summer Art for High School Students
MAILED: June 6, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education introduces its first-ever summer high school art program, SmArt, to be held July 8-18 in the Haas Fine Arts building.
The SmArt program emphasizes hands-on experiences across a variety of art disciplines. All high school students are eligible to register. Class times are from 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-2:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Class offerings include "Advanced Jewelry Making," in which students learn advanced soldering, bezel-making and stone setting techniques; "Up Close: Painting Realistic Portraits" which teaches students how to use the grid-pattern technique using colored pencils, inks and paints; and "Sculptural Explorations in Plaster" a chance for students to get physical with art by creating a large abstract plaster sculpture while learning methods for molding, casting a form and using knives, rasps and saws to bring sculpture to life.
"Building Blocks of Photography" teaches about photo equipment, color and light, and taking photos of nature and people; "The Fine Art of Silk Screening" teaches ink resist and transfer techniques; "Little People" features a fantasy theme and installation sculpture using clay and other materials to create an imaginary civilization.
Tuition for SmArt is $60 plus a $20 material fee. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, and classes fill quickly.
