EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire public relations students, along with a number of campus ethnic groups, have organized a celebration titled "A Taste of Our Future" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 9, on the campus mall.
Barbara Blackdeer-Mackenzie's "Introduction to Public Relations" class has invited high school students within a 50-mile radius of Eau Claire to participate in the event, which will feature campus tours, entertainment and food.
The event is designed to help students look ahead to a more diverse campus and community.
"We are excited to have area high school students see campus life as it happens," senior Jill Johnson said. "The UAC Spring Fest is a running part of student life here. The ethnic organizations participating in 'A Taste of Our Future' are a great bonus."
"A Taste of Our Future" is being held in conjunction with Spring Fest, which is organized by the University Activities Council and runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6-10. The event is open to all UW-Eau Claire students, staff and faculty.
Several organizations are supporting the event, including the Knight Foundation, the American Ethic Coordinating Office, UW-Eau Claire Foundation, the Center for Service Learning and the communication and journalism department.
"I sincerely hope everyone will take advantage of good food and a good time," said Blackdeer-Mackenzie, one of two Knight journalists-in-residence for the 2001-02 academic year.
In the case of inclement weather, the festival will take place in the Blugold Room of Davies Center.
