'A Day in the Park'
Scheduled for May 11

MAILED: April 26, 2002

EAU CLAIRE  The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student chapter of American College of Health Care Administrators will sponsor the second annual "A Day in the Park." The event will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Dells Pavilion in Mount Simon Park and will provide fun and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
"A Day in the Park" celebrates the special relationship that local nursing home and rehabilitation residents have with family members and friends. Student volunteers will coordinate games and activities, and Kerm's on Water Street, Eau Claire, will provide root beer floats.
"An exciting change is that this year we will be having a polka band there in addition to the numerous games and activities that we had last year," said Shanna Swanson, student coordinator of "A Day in the Park."
Dr. Douglas Olson, assistant professor of health care administration in allied health professions at UW-Eau Claire said, "The main purpose of an event like this is to provide an opportunity for family members and friends to spend a day at the park with their elderly parents, grandparents or special friends." He added, "It also presents the chance to recognize the contributions of local long-term care facilities and offers students the chance for meaningful volunteer work."
The event is also sponsored by the following local long-term care facilities: Oakwood Villa, Dove Health Care Nursing and Rehabilitation, Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation, Syverson Lutheran Home and Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation.
