EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's New Playwrights Festival will take place at 4 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, through Friday, April 19, in Kjer Theatre.
The plays are short and have been clustered into three different groups. Each group of plays will be performed twice, on two different days.
The following plays, in Group A, will be performed at 4 p.m. Thursday and at 8 p.m. Friday:
"Coercion" was written by senior Joe Thunstrom, Cumberland, directed by senior Erin Conery, Beloit, and will be performed by freshmen Robert Ginter, Sun Prairie, and Paul Bleier, Wautoma.
"Carnal: Flesh of my Flesh" was written by senior Nelly Hanley, Des Plaines, Ill., directed by senior Mauricio Alessandro Urusquieta de Guevara Martinez, North Prairie, and will be performed by graduate student Kolla Hilmarsson, Bayside, senior Beeta Bastani, Eau Claire, senior Andrea Apodaco, Pell Lake, Urusquieta de Guevara Martinez and freshman Valla Hilmarsson, Bayside.
"ABC's" was written by senior Tony Brown, Plymouth, directed by Conery, and will be performed by junior Eric Traxler, Boyceville, Ginter and Bleier.
"When the Bough Breaks" was written by senior Colleen Giles, Eau Claire, directed by senior Aaron Zook, Fall Creek, and will be performed by junior Kelly Kriesel, Madison.
"Runner" was written by senior Andrew Rodgers, Berlin, directed by Kriesel, and will be performed by Zook.
"A Cool Fifty" was written by senior Scot LaFaive, Chippewa Falls, directed by Kriesel, and will be performed by senior Derek Brehm, Eau Claire, and Traxler.
The following plays, in Group B, will be performed at 8 p.m. Wednesday and 4 p.m. Friday:
"Six in One Hand…" was written by Urusquieta de Guevara Martinez, directed by Brown, and will be performed by seniors Andy French, Plymouth, Minn., and Janine Brinkman, New Hope, Minn., junior Dave Jaworski, Plymouth, Minn., and community member Tim Serduto.
- "Not a Tea Drinker" was written by sophomore Sara Brand, East Sussex, England, directed by Kriesel, and will be performed by senior Monica Raymond, Wausau, and junior Kale Nelson, Frederic.
- "Polar Poetry Workshop" was written by Thunstrom, directed by Brown, and will be performed by senior Rolf Bruhn, Waukesha, junior Rick Cedergren, Chisago City, Minn., and Jaworski.
- "Causing Trouble" was written by senior Dawn Coen, West Bend, directed by Zook, and will be performed by freshman Dan Largent, Mondovi, and community member Todd Vaggert.
- "Trigger Happy" was written by Kriesel, directed by senior Heather Cork, Eau Claire, and will be performed by Raymond and Nelson.
- "Fishathon Practice" was written by Brand, directed by senior Rob Susedik, Eau Claire, and will be performed by community members Russell P. Zook and Chad Brickner.
The following plays, in Group C, will be performed at 4 p.m. Wednesday and 8 p.m. Thursday:
- "A Heart Worth Breaking" was written by senior Chandra LaViolette, Manitowoc, directed by Giles, and will be performed by junior Nicole Kittle, Mound, Minn.
- "Black Widow" was written by December 2001 graduate Mandy Marx, Elgin, Minn., directed by senior Laura Malischke, Pewaukee, and will be performed by Giles, graduate student Katherine Anderson, Cadott, sophomore Adam Haas, St. Charles, Minn., and senior Rob Vanderloop, Kaukauna.
- "Not My Child" was written by Brehm, directed by Urusquieta de Guevara Martinez, and will be performed by sophomore Paul Barnes, Little Falls, Minn.
- "Stranded" was written by Cork, directed by Malischke, and will be performed by Haas, Vanderloop and Anderson.
- "Rotten Sneaks" was written by Brown, directed by senior Emily McPeck, Clayton, and will be performed by freshman Clark Donnelly, Cottage Grove, Minn.
- "Bros. Before Hoes" was written by junior Anna Figlesthaler, Bayside, directed by Malischke, and will be performed by Haas, Giles and Vanderloop.
- "You the Hit" was written by senior Stephanie Dray, Medford, directed by Giles, and will be performed by Susedik and Kittle.
Freshmen Shae Nelson, Menominee, and Jacob Dougherty, Menomonee Falls, are the facilitators for the festival.
Tickets are available for $2 at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door.
