EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Concert Dance Company will present its annual spring concert, "Danceworks 2002," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 25-27, in Kjer Theatre on the UW-Eau Claire campus.
"Danceworks 2002" will feature a wide variety of dance styles, including a salsa piece and swing number along with the usual ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and modern. Dr. Toni Poll-Sorensen, professor of kinesiology and athletics and the company's adviser, and several company members have created the dances in the performance.
The group recently took two of the pieces in the recital - "The Mists of Avalon" and "Power Absolute" - to an American College Dance Festival Association festival at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Senior Nicole Winter, Austin, Minn., choreographed "The Mists of Avalon" in response to the events of September 11. "Power Absolute," choreographed by senior Katie Brown, Waupaca, is about power and struggle and features elaborate face makeup.
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are $7 for the public and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, $4 for students with a university ID, and $3.50 for those age 62 and older and 17 and younger.
