UW-Eau Claire Honors Week
Set for April 22-28

         EAU CLAIRE  The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is celebrating its 30th annual Scholastic Honors Week Monday, April 22, through Sunday, April 28.
         Honors Week is the time the university sets aside to recognize students who have achieved academic excellence, according to Bob Shaw, associate dean of students and coordinator of Honors Week.
         Thirty-three UW-Eau Claire honor societies will sponsor the week's activities.
         Unless otherwise noted, all events will be held in Davies Center.
         The festivities will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Alumni Room with the Juegos Florales Poetry Reading competition, sponsored by Sigma Delta Phi.
         The Sigma Pi Sigma initiation will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Presidents Room. The Golden Key Honor Society induction is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Davies Theatre. Capping off Tuesday's events is the Pi Sigma Alpha membership initiation and reception at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Room.
         Wednesday, the Honors Program Organization will sponsor an ice cream social and discussion from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Wisconsin Room. From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Davies Theatre there will be an economics faculty debate sponsored by Omicron Delta Epsilon.
         Sigma Theta Tau will have its honors presentation at 4 p.m. Thursday in Room 114 of the School of Nursing. Kappa Mu Epsilon will initiate new members at 6:30 p.m. in the Hibbard Hall Penthouse, and Sigma Gamma Zeta II will initiate new members at 6:30 p.m. in the Presidents Room. Thursday's events conclude with the annual Sophs Telethon with TV 10 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Towers TV Lounge.
         The University Leadership Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. Friday in the Tamarack Room. The Nursing Kaleidoscope will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with registration in the Skylight Lounge and the presentation in Davies Theatre.
         Saturday, Honors Day, begins with 10:30 a.m. initiations for Sigma Theta Tau in Davies Theatre and Kappa Delta Pi in the Presidents Room. A reception in the Skylight Lounge follows the Sigma Theta Tau initiation.
         Phi Kappa Phi will initiate its new members at 12:30 p.m. in Davies Theatre, and Phi Eta Sigma will do the same at 1 p.m. in the Schofield Auditorium.
         At 2 p.m. in the Council Fire Room, a combined reception sponsored by the Alumni Association and UW-Eau Claire honors groups will be held for all honor society members, friends and families.
         Four more groups will hold their initiations Saturday afternoon, beginning with Beta Alpha Psi's ceremony at 2:30 p.m. in the Potawatomi Room. At 3 p.m., Beta Gamma Sigma and Omicron Delta Kappa will initiate new members in the Alumni Room and Presidents Room, respectively. Alpha Lambda Delta will hold its initiation at 4 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.
         Highlighting Honors Week is the 2002 Honors Banquet, slated for 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Spruce and Tamarack Rooms. Seating will begin at 5 p.m. More than 750 people are expected to attend the banquet, which will include awards and entertainment. Cost of the dinner is $10.50 per person and tickets are available at the University Service Center. The deadline for reserving tickets is April 16.
         On Sunday, Mortar Board will hold its initiation ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in the central campus mall, with a brunch at noon in the Dulany Inn to follow. The ceremony will be moved to Davies Theatre if the weather is inclement.
         UW-Eau Claire is celebrating Earth Week concurrently with Honors Week. An Earth Week conference will be held Monday through Thursday and Saturday.
