EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, April 8. All events are free and open to the public.MONDAY, APRIL 8:
- Angela Nies, a senior clarinetist from De Pere, will perform a recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center, with assistance from pianist Beverly Soll, performing arts and special events coordinator; bassoonist Toby Yatso, a senior from Ashwaubenon; and cellist Loni Schiel, a senior from New Berlin. Four works by various artists will be performed.
- Junior trombonist Joe Hartson, Oconomowoc, and sophomore bass trombonist James Yardley, Duluth, Minn., will perform a joint recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Community member Judy Lies and freshman Rebecca Schiltz, Duluth Minn., will assist on piano. Various works will be performed, including "Vocalise" by Sergei Rachmaninoff, "Sonata" by Donald White and Johannes Brahms' "O Death."
TUESDAY, APRIL 9:
- Senior soprano Jessica Timman, Plymouth, Minn., and senior mezzo-soprano Jennifer Weber, Menomonie, will perform a joint recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Senior pianist Andrew French, Plymouth, Minn., will provide accompaniment. Eight works will be performed, including "As Summer Brings a Wistful Breeze" by John Corigliano, Jake Heggie's "Of Gods and Cats" and "Amor" by William Bolcom.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10:
- Soprano Kathryn Eakright, a senior from Eau Claire, and tenor Jason Sunde, a junior from Amery, will perform a joint recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Pianists Zach Halmstad, a senior from Eau Claire, and Philip Dorn, a junior from Clintonville, will provide assistance. Five works will be performed, including "We Sing to Him" by Henry Purcell and "Juliet's Waltz Song" by Charles Gounod from "Romeo et Juliette."
- Sigma Alpha Iota, an international women's music fraternity, will perform a concert at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Various works will be performed, including "Heart of a Wolf" by Neal Corwell, Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "Josephine" by Tori Amos.
THURSDAY, APRIL 11:
- The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. in Ganter Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Members of the ensemble include Tim Lane, associate professor of music and theatre arts, on flute; Ivar Lunde Jr., professor of music and theatre arts, on oboe; Richard Fletcher, professor of music and theatre arts, on clarinet; Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer of music and theatre arts, on bassoon; and Andrew Parks, associate lecturer of music and theatre arts, on horn. The ensemble will perform six works, including pieces by Darius Milhaud, Ingolf Dahl and Ivar Lunde Jr.
SUNDAY, APRIL 14:
- Paul Kosower, professor of music and theatre arts, will perform a recital at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Seven works will be performed, including Max Reger's "O Sacred Heart Once Wounded," Priere" by Joseph Jongen and "Behold a Host" by John Ferguson.
- The Minnesota Saxophone Quartet will perform a guest recital at 4 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Members of the quartet include Nancy McMillan, lecturer of music and theatre arts, on soprano saxophone; Karen Reinhardt Benson on alto saxophone; John Engebretson on tenor saxophone; and Dennis Lindsay on baritone saxophone. A variety of works will be performed, including Jules Massenet's "Haunting Melody," "The Dancing Doll" by Ede Poldini, arranged by Michael Cunningham, and "Sevilla" by Isaac Albeniz.
