EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, April 1. All events are free and open to the public.WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3:
- Senior soprano Lisa Butcher, Woodbury, Minn., will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Various works will be performed, including "Dearest Mama," from "The Ballad of Baby Doe" by Douglas Moore; Jake Heggie's "I Shall Not Live in Vain," from "The Faces of Love"; and "Sara Lee" by John Kander. Community member Judy Lies will provide accompaniment on the piano.
FRIDAY, APRIL 5:
- Michael Cunningham, professor of music, will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Eight works, all composed by Cunningham, will be performed, including "Parisian Sonata," Op. 72, a song written to reactivate the methods from the French Six movement earlier in the 20th century, and four works that Cunningham has never presented in a concert setting. Various UW-Eau Claire music faculty and students will perform for this recital.
SUNDAY, APRIL 7:
- Les Favorites, a period instrument ensemble specializing in the music of the middle and late baroque period, will perform at 4 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Performers include community members Laura Handler, baroque violoncello, and Lucinda Marvin, baroque violin; associate professor of music and theatre arts Dr. Tim Lane, baroque flute; and professors of music and theatre arts Nanette Lunde, harpsichord, and Ivar Lunde Jr., baroque oboe. The group will perform five works, including pieces by Gianbattista Cirri, Friedrich Wilhelm Riedt and Georg Philipp Telemann.
