Art Students to Exhibit
In Foster Gallery

MAILED: March 22, 2002

EAU CLAIRE  Twelve University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire bachelor of fine arts degree candidates will display their work at two concurrent exhibits in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
"Down to Earth" will run from April 5 to 10, with a reception in the gallery from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. The show will feature the work of studio art majors Gerri Alger, Ripon; Joanna Haese, Onalaska; Julianne Johnson, Chippewa Falls; and Shannon Sullivan, Verona. All work primarily with ceramics.
Haese, who is showing a few paintings and prints along with her ceramic pieces, said, "My work has a very simplistic style. I like to keep things transparent because I want everyone who looks at my art to understand it."
Alger, showing all ceramic work, describes her work as mainly non-functional and sculptural in nature. "Most of my works are wall pieces with some figurative emphasis," she said.
"Coloring Outside the Lines" will take place from April 7 to 10, with a gallery reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 7. The exhibit will feature the work of graphic design majors Laura Beloat, Cedarburg; Dan Drieman, St. Paul, Minn.; Christina Grimm, Baraboo; Allen Jacobson, Alma; Trisha Larson, Burnsville, Minn.; Melissa Loseck, Woodbury, Minn.; Sara Suick, Eau Claire; and Jennifer Weldon, Plum City.
"In my design I try to push the limits of typical design," said Drieman, whose work includes some packaging and 3-D design projects as well as 3-D sculpture work. "My sculpture art also is modern and I try to make all my pieces functional, working with many different mediums in a piece."
Larson notes that in her design work she strives to make many relatively small and otherwise mundane aspects of life more beautiful and aesthetically intriguing.
Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information, contact Tom Wagener, director of the Foster Gallery, at (715) 836-2328 or
