UW-Eau Claire Student from Chippewa Falls
Awarded Social Work Scholarship
MAILED: March 14, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student Amy Welbourn, Chippewa Falls, was recently awarded the $600 Lloyd and Jeanette Piper Memorial Social Work Scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior student with a social work major who displays overall academic achievement and demonstrates leadership in a campus organization. The student also must adhere to the National Association of Social Work Code of Ethics.
Welbourn, a junior majoring in social work with a pre-occupational therapy minor, has demonstrated her leadership both on and off campus. She is a member of three different honor societies and was the student representative for the social work department, acting as a liaison between students and faculty. In addition to her activities on campus, Welbourn volunteers at Luther Hospital in the hand therapy, neurosciences and impatient departments; works in a group home three days a week; and works on the Wisconsin Early Autism Project two days a week.
"I was excited and thankful to receive this award," said Welbourn, who plans to go on to graduate school and become an occupational therapist. Welbourn says she plans to apply the scholarship to her fall 2002 tuition at UW-Eau Claire, which will allow her to put some money aside for graduate school.
