EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host a two-day Women's Conference as part of its Women's History Month activities. The conference, held Wednesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 14, will include a variety of lectures and performances. All events are free and open to the public.
Events for Wednesday, March 13
- "Gay and Lesbian Women in Religion" - 10 a.m., Badger Room, Davies Center, presented by Dr. Lori Rowlett, assistant professor, philosophy and religious studies
- "Reading Strong Women: Text and Tales" - 10:30 a.m., Arrowhead Room, Davies Center, presented by Dr. Katherine Rhoades, professor of foundations of education, and Dr. Tamara Lindsey, assistant professor, curriculum and instruction
- "UW-Eau Claire Women's Studies Program and the Commission on the Status of Women" - 11 a.m., Badger Room, Davies Center, presented by Dr. Katherine Lang, assistant professor of history, and Dr. Jennifer Shaddock, associate professor of English
- "The Fairer Sex in the Ivory Tower" - noon, Presidents Room, Davies Center, lunch presentation by featured guest speaker Dr. Rhea Steinpreis, associate professor of psychology, UW-Milwaukee
- "Women in the Life Sciences" - 1 p.m., Badger Room, Davies Center, presented by Lois Helland, a lecturer in the UW-Eau Claire biology department
- "Domestic Abuse in Dating Relationships" - 1 p.m., Arrowhead Room, Davies Center, presented by Laurel Kieffer, a lecturer in the women's studies program
- "Hiring Inequalities for Women" - 2 p.m., Presidents Room, Davies Center, roundtable discussion led by featured guest speaker Dr. Rhea Steinpreis
- "Assessing and Improving Safety on the UW-Eau Claire Campus" - 3 p.m., Badger Room, Davies Center, presented by Sergeant Rexann Lemke of the Public Safety office
- Readings from Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" and music, dance and original poetry presentations by UW-Eau Claire women - 8 p.m., Schofield Auditorium

The Women's Conference and all Women's History Month activities are sponsored by the Commission on the Status of Women; women's studies program; Housing & Residence Life; UW-Eau Claire departments of history, English and economics; Office of Research and Sponsored Programs; University Recreation; Student Health Service; Student Senate; University Activities Commission; Activities and Programs; Towers Hall Council; Peer Diversity Educators; National Residence Hall Honorary; Making Our School an Intercultural Community (MOSAIC); Party Smart; Violence Against Women Task Force; Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment (PAVE); American Association of University Women; Wisconsin Women in Higher Education Leadership (WWHEL).

- "Confronting Sexual Assault" - 2 p.m., Arrowhead Room, Davies Center, presented by UW-Eau Claire student Cynthia Patterson and the student organization Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment
- "Spirit, Balance and Nature: Reflections of a Mestiza in Higher Education" - 4 p.m., Schofield Auditorium, presented by featured guest speaker Dr. Alicia Chavez
- "Science and Values: A Feminist Perspective" - 4 p.m., Hibbard Penthouse, Hibbard Hall, presented by Dr. Helen Longino, professor of philosophy, University of Minnesota
