MAILED: Feb. 21, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students in Curriculum and Instruction 437, Teaching Foreign Languages in Grades 1-9, are offering free classes for elementary school children on Thursday afternoons from March 14 to May 9.
Six Spanish classes, two French classes and two German classes will run from 4:10 to 4:50 p.m. in Hibbard Hall.
"Children benefit in many ways from experiencing a foreign language at a young age," said Paul Hoff, professor of foreign languages. "We hope that these exploratory classes will give students the interest and motivation to continue their foreign language study in the future."
Possible course topics include colors, numbers, the calendar, weather, travel, geography, sports and food.
The registration deadline is March 1. Space is limited to 10 students per class.
To enroll a child or obtain more information, contact Hoff at 836-4287.
