For Safer Sex Awareness Week![]()
MAILED: Feb. 5, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is offering several programs for the week of Monday, Feb. 11, which the school has designated Safer Sex Awareness Week.
This year's theme is "Loves me … loves me not." Activities will address qualities of healthy relationships, including mutual respect, honesty, monogamy and open communication.
The events will begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, with a showing of the movie "The Next Best Thing" in the Towers TV Lounge. In the film, Madonna plays a woman who, in an unexpected moment of closeness, has a sexual encounter with a good friend, a gay man played by Rupert Everett. Madonna's character ends up pregnant. The movie addresses dynamics of both platonic and romantic relationships.
At 9 p.m. on Feb. 13, Towers TV Lounge students can play "The Great Sexcapades," a sexual health trivia game based on the combined formats of Trivial Pursuit, Jeopardy and the "physical challenges" of Double Dare.
A free spaghetti dinner will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Towers social room, followed by Condom Bingo at 8 p.m. in Towers TV lounge.
In addition an information booth will be stationed in Davies Center Feb. 13 and 14.
All events are being co-sponsored by the Peer Health Educators, Student Health Services, Housing and Residence Life, National Residence Hall Honorary, and the Residence Hall Activities Board.
UW-Eau Claire has celebrated Safer Sex Awareness Week, which corresponds with a national campaign that is sponsored by the college health education organization Bacchus and Gamma, for about 10 years.
