Free Concerts at UW-Eau Claire![]()
MAILED: Jan. 24, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — Ivan Klipstein will perform three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Feb. 7-9. His shows will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in The Cabin of Davies Center.
Often inadequately described as eclectic, Ivan Klipstein's songs exist in a world all their own where the music is all that matters. His third album, "Lifestyle" (2001), features sweetly serenaded lullabies, tongue-twisting raps, wall-of-sound rock, human beat box and a capella sound effects, deft turntablism and string arrangements, all presented with Klipstein's truly unique voice and melodic sensibility.
Klipstein's live show is stripped down, performed solo with an electric guitar.
"It's no wonder Ivan Klipstein has built a reputation as one of Madison's most eclectic musicians," wrote Isthmus of Madison last fall. "His shows have often included performance art - he once set his guitar on fire at Cafe Assisi and gave a Power Point presentation between sets, charting and graphing the essence of his music. For encores, he'll typically invite the audience to crowd around his guitar in the nearest bathroom."
A resident of Madison, Klipstein has built a solid following in small-town Wisconsin, and he tours the United States and Canada performing in all kinds of places - universities, coffee houses, all-ages clubs and basement shows. He has shared the stage with Kevin Seconds (of 7 Seconds), Ministry's Chris Connelly, John Hermanson and Brenda Weiler.
The show is open to all ages. Pop, domestic and imported beer, wine coolers and popcorn will be sold; proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.
The Cabin program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
