EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will offer a new course titled "Islam in the World: Political Perspectives" during the spring 2002 semester.
The course is designed for community members and students who are interested in better understanding the political and socioeconomic dynamics of countries in the Middle East, and the underlying reasons for the Sept. 11 attack on the United States.
Classes will be held from 6-8:45 p.m. Feb. 19 and 25, and March 5, 12 and 19 at UW-Eau Claire. The cost is $145.91 for one undergraduate credit and $250.70 for one graduate credit.
Course objectives include introducing students to Islam and the politics of Islam, providing a basic understanding of the Middle East and its characteristics, providing a historical background to the present United States-Middle East relations and helping to understand contemporary issues of peace and conflict in the Middle East.
Iran native Ali R. Abootalebi, associate professor of political science at UW-Eau Claire, will be the instructor.
