EAU CLAIRE — The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony will present a free concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Now in its 21st season, the Youth Symphony is under the direction of Ivar Lunde Jr. and includes 61 area youth from Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Cadott, Elk Mound, Eleva, Knapp, Menomonie, Osseo, River Falls and Thorp.
The concert will begin with Emma Lou Diemer's "Festival Overture" followed by Gioacchino Rossini's "William Tell Overture" and the "Mexican Overture" by Merle J. Isaac.
Georg Frideric Handel's Concerto for Harp and Strings will feature harpist Shiloh Lewis, followed by Prokofieff's "Triumphal March" from "Peter and Wolf," Op. 67, narrated by Tim Abraham. The concert will end with Anton Dvorak's Symphony No. 5, Op. 95.
The concert is sponsored by UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education and the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony Association.
