EAU CLAIRE — Activities for the 2001 Women's Conference, "In Women's Eyes," began this week at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a joint kickoff presentation by Dr. Jennifer Shaddock, interim program coordinator, department of women's studies, and Dr. Katherine Lang, assistant professor, department of history.
Sponsored by the Student Life and Diversity Commission of the Student Senate, the conference features a series of presentations and discussions that are free of charge and open to the public. The schedule of presentations for Tuesday, Dec. 4, and Wednesday, Dec. 5, which all take place in The Cabin in Davies Center, is as follows:
Tuesday, Dec. 4
11:00 a.m. - "Beyond Killing Us Softly" - Women in the Media Movie/discussion led by Jodi Thesing-Ritter, Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life, and Kelly Koster, Director of Programming, Peer Diversity Educators
1:00 p.m. - "Domestic Abuse in Dating and Relationships" - Presentation by Laurel Kieffer, lecturer, department of women's studies
3:00 p.m. - "Women Reading, Women Writing" - Women in Literature Presentation/discussion led by Dr. Stefanie Sievers and Dr. Audrey Fessler, instructors in the department of English
Wednesday, Dec. 5
Noon - "Assessing and Improving Safety on Campus" - Presentation by Sarah Harvieux, Alcohol Education Coordinator and Health Education for University Health Services, and Sergeant Rexann Lemke, University Police
1:00 p.m. - "Gay and Lesbian Women in Religion" - Presentation by Dr. Lori Rowlett, assistant professor, department of philosophy and religion
3:00 p.m. - "Bolton Refuge House" - Presentation by staff of the Bolton Refuge House
4:00 p.m. -"The Truth in Domestic Violence - Choose Your Own DESTINY" - Presentation by an Eau Claire survivor of domestic abuse
