EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Wind Symphony will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The Wind Symphony is under the direction of Dr. Richard Mark Heidel, who conducted his first concert at UW-Eau Claire just a little over one year ago.
The concert will begin with Carolyn Bremer's "Early Light" and continue with Michael Cunningham's Clarinet Concerto, Op. 186, featuring Dr. Richard Fletcher, professor of music, on clarinet. The first half of the program will conclude with David Holsinger's "Liturgical Dances (Benedicamus Socii Domino)" and Johannes Hanssen's classic Norwegian march, "Valdres," arranged by Glenn Cliff Bainum.
The second half of the concert will begin with Gordon Jacob's "Old Wine in New Bottles" in four movements, featuring the Chamber Winds, followed by Ivar Lunde Jr.'s Elegy for Symphonic Band, Op. 61. The concert will conclude with John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are $4.75 for the general public; $3.75 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger, and faculty or staff with a university ID; and $1.25 for students with a university ID.
