Wins Big in Texas

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Forensics team continued its strong season by placing second and third in two competitions at the Speech on the Beach Swing Tournament at Del-Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In the first competition, sponsored by Del-Mar College, the five varsity members who made the trip took 23 events and broke 15 to finals, placing second in the team sweepstakes and taking four of the five individual sweepstakes awards given.
Senior Scott Boras, Kellogg, Minn., took first place in the individual sweepstakes and dramatic interpretation, second place in prose interpretation and poetry interpretation, third place in impromptu speaking and sixth place in communication analysis.
Seniors Brain Haapala, Grayslake, Ill., and Eric Rasmussen, Eau Claire, tied for second place in the individual sweepstakes.
Haapala placed first in prose interpretation and persuasive speaking and took second place in duo interpretation with Rasmussen.
Rasmussen also took first place in duo interpretation with junior Ben Schneider, Greendale, and added a first-place finish in informative speaking. Schneider also contributed a fourth-place finish in dramatic interpretation.
Senior Aaron Unseth, Plato, Minn., placed fourth in individual sweepstakes and communication analysis and took third place in poetry interpretation, persuasive speaking and informative speaking.
In the second competition, sponsored by the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), the team took third place and earned three of the five individual sweepstakes awards.
Haapala took first place in the individual sweepstakes and informative speaking, second place in duo interpretation (with Rasmussen) and persuasive speaking and third place in dramatic interpretation.
Unseth finished second in individual sweeps and informative speaking, third in persuasive speaking and fourth in poetry interpretation and communication analysis.
Schneider took fifth place in individual sweeps, fourth place in prose interpretation and third place in duo interpretation (with Rasmussen).
Rasmussen took second and third place in duo interpretation (with Haapala and Schneider, respectively) and seventh place in poetry interpretation.
Boras placed sixth in impromptu speaking, communication analysis and dramatic interpretation.
