Folk Musician Julgi Stalte
To Visit UW-Eau Claire
MAILED: Nov. 13, 2001
EAU CLAIRE — World-renowned folk musician and soloist Julgi Stalte will make a tour stop at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Her visit will include both a presentation and performance, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Presidents Room of Davies Center.
Stalte has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, most recently as a soloist for the jazz ensemble TULLI LUM. Stalte's ethnicity is Liv, and she is one of the few native speakers of Livonian left in the world. Her presentation will acquaint participants with the culture and folklore of the smallest nation in the world and ask them to reconsider issues of cultural diversity, globalism and the value of preserving the richness of the human community.
The free presentation and performance is being sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire departments of history, political science, and foreign languages; the Baltic Student Organization; the College of Arts and Sciences; and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
