To Perform Nov. 18![]()
MAILED: Nov. 8, 2001
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphonic Choir will perform with the Symphony Orchestra at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Alan Rieck, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, will conduct.
The first part of the concert will consist of the "Dettinger Te Deum" by G. F. Handel and will feature four UW-Eau Claire faculty soloists: Elizabeth Hellman, soprano; Kathryn Proctor Duax, mezzo-soprano; Daniel Newman, tenor; and Robert Knight, bass.
Handel wrote the piece in 1743 in celebration of the victory of the allied English and Austrians over the French at Dettingen am Main. It was heralded, in its day, as "truly sublime and masterful."
The second part of the concert will feature Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms," a three-movement setting of familiar Hebrew psalms. Bernstein wrote this piece in 1965 for the annual summer music festival at the Cathedral of Chichester in Sussex, England. The piece has grown in popularity through the years and demonstrates Bernstein's brilliant use of rhythm and harmony.
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, are $4.75 for the general public; $3.75 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.25 for UW-Eau Claire students with a university ID.
The Symphonic Choir includes university students, faculty, staff and community members. Anyone interested in auditioning for the spring semester may contact Rieck at (715) 836-3634.
