EAU CLAIRE — The University of
Wisconsin-Eau Claire — along with all UW System campuses — has canceled
afternoon classes for Friday, Sept. 14, in recognition of President George W.
Bush’s “National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the
Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001” proclamation.
Classes will end at noon Friday.
The university itself will remain open throughout the day
on Friday, but all university employees are encouraged to take an hour beginning
at noon to observe the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance in their own way,
Chancellor Donald Mash said.
“By canceling classes and giving our employees time
away from their jobs during the noon hour, we are giving all members of our
campus community — students, faculty and staff — an opportunity to reflect
on the week’s tragic events, attend worship services or in some other way show
respect for the victims of these attacks,” Mash said.
Residence halls, counseling services, dining areas and
administrative offices will be open Friday afternoon to meet students’ needs,
Mash said.
In light of the disruption caused by the week’s events,
UW-Eau Claire and other UW System campuses will give students additional time to
drop classes and receive full tuition refunds. The new deadline for dropping a
class and receiving a full refund at UW-Eau Claire is Sept. 21.
