EAU CLAIRE — The University of
Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will continue to offer Saturday
Samplers and Evening Endeavors, featuring instructional courses on everything
from parenting tips to learning how to use a video camera, throughout October.
“Cheap Thrills: No Sew Halloween Costumes” will be
held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. Participants will see demonstrations of
simple no-sew costume-making techniques. Handouts on basic costumes such as
vampires, snowmen, knights and puppies will be provided. Course fee is $45.
Parents looking for ways to help their children with
homework can learn more at a workshop titled “Homework – It doesn’t have
to be a STRUGGLE!” The workshop is offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday,
Oct. 9. A panel of teachers/parents will share ideas and ways to help children
and stay in communication with their schools. The course, co-sponsored by the
CESA/Ameritech Homework Helpline, is $10.
“PC Publishing – Using your Personal Computer to
Create Newsletters, Fliers and Brochures,” will show participants how to use
MS Publisher to create inexpensive cards, invitations, brochures and flyers that
include a personal touch and save time. The $30 course runs from 9 to 11 a.m.
Saturday, Oct. 20.
“Ready, Aim, Produce! – Getting more from your Video
Camera” will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 20 and 27. Through
a combination of demonstrations, hands-on activities and critiques, this class
will shed light on camera basics, video production methods,
shooting-to–tell-a-story and in-camera editing techniques. Basic working
knowledge of the video camera is expected. Individual consultations may be
scheduled. Course fee is $100.
Sample food and learn how to prepare Hmong meals in
“Cooking – Hmong Cuisine” from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct.20 and 27. This
workshop will provide an overview of grains, vegetables, herbs, spices and roots
common to Hmong cooking and learn the process of preparing sweet and sticky rice
and favorite Hmong dishes. Course fee is $60, which includes a visit to the
Noodle Wrap restaurant.
