UW-Eau Claire To Host
Law Enforcement Seminar
MAILED: Aug. 2, 2001

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Office of Public Safety and the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance will sponsor a law enforcement seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 23-24, in the Menomonee and Oneida Rooms of UW-Eau Claire’s Davies Center.
The seminar, “First Responders, Investigative Strategies for Sexual Assault,” is designed to assist the first responder in conducting an effective and efficient investigation. Topics covered will include developing an understanding of the dynamics of sexual assault and its effects on victims, understanding state statutes and terms related to sexual assault and related crimes, identifying types of sexual assaults, conducting appropriate interviews and identifying resources for victims.
Training is free to local law enforcement agencies because of a federal grant to the state under the Violence Against Women Act, Law Enforcement Training Program.
Registration deadline is Aug. 15. Enrollment is limited. The second day is a repeat of the first to allow more officers to attend.
For more information or to register, contact Tami Dzikowich, VAWA LET Coordinator, Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance, (608) 261-4375 or Officer Doug Hubbard, UW-Eau Claire Office of Public Safety, (715) 836-2222.
