MAILED: July 2, 2001
EAU CLAIRE — Singer-songwriter Matt Wahl will present a free outdoor
concert at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Monday, July 16.
The Summer Session Programs show will begin at 7 p.m. on
the Central Campus Mall (rain: Schofield Auditorium). Refreshments will be sold.
Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn
seating.
Matt Wahl spent three years in an office cubicle before
giving up the corporate life for the open road. Living his dream of touring and
playing music full time, Wahl has created a down-to-earth, light-hearted
acoustic rock-folk sound that appeals to people of many ages. Drawing from such
artists as Gordon Lightfoot, Harry Chapin and Jimmy Buffet, he mixes lyrically
meaningful original songs with fun cover tunes.
Also on campus during the week of July 16 are these free
Summer Session Programs:
- “The Princess Bride” (1987) continues a series of romance and
adventure films with screenings Tuesday and Thursday at noon and 7 p.m. in
Davies Theatre. Peter Falk tells his skeptical grandson a story, a fairy-tale
comedy filled with romance, fantasy and swashbuckling action. Robin Wright, Cary
Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest and Wallace Shawn star
— along with monsters, thrilling chases, narrow escapes and true love. People
magazine called the film “an instant classic [filled with] romanticism,
adventure and a liberal shot of humor.” Directed by Rob Reiner, the 98-minute
film is rated PG.
- UW-Eau Claire and area musicians will present a jazz concert from
noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday on the Central Campus Mall (rain: The Cabin, Davies
Center). A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold.
Funded by UW-Eau Claire student segregated fees, Summer
Session Programs continue through Aug. 2. More information is available from the
Activities and Programs Office, Davies Center 133, (715) 836-4833.
